Five Gold Medals for the Distiller’s Acclaimed Single Malt and Blue Corn Whiskies
Waco, TX – The Wizards of Whisky have announced their 2017 winners and Balcones has earned five gold medals for Baby Blue, True Blue 100, ‘1’ Texas Single Malt, Texas Single Malt Rum Cask Finish, and Texas Blue Corn Bourbon.
The Wizards of Whisky World Whisky Awards is designed to highlight smaller distillers around the world apart from the established regions of Canada, Scotland, Kentucky or Japan. The whiskies were judged by a panel of tasting experts from The Whisky Tasting Club’s VIP membership over a course of three sessions.
Dominic Roskrow, proprietor for Wizards of Whisky, commented, “This is the fifth time we have staged our Wizards of Whisky World Whisky Awards and this year belonged to America, particularly Texas and Tennessee. Balcones has become a regular winner over the years but this year the distillery has raised the bar, and is staying true to its roots too. These are world class whiskies.”

Balcones Baby Blue and ‘1’ Texas Single Malt are currently available in Texas, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, California, Louisiana, Illinois, North Carolina, Virginia, Washington, D.C., Maryland, Florida, Massachusetts, and Kentucky. Texas Single Malt Rum Cask Finish, True Blue 100 and Texas Blue Corn Bourbon are released seasonally in Texas only.
Last year, Balcones moved from its original distillery in Waco, TX, to a 65,000 square foot historic building just a few blocks away. Equipped with astonishing copper pot stills built by Forsyths of Scotland, Balcones distillers now possess the capability to meet growing demand for their whiskies while allowing for flexibility in experimentation and innovation.
